Legacy Native Plants is dedicated to bringing the legacy of Wisconsin’s native landscapes back to our communities, one yard at a time. The Waunakee area and surrounding communities were once part of the Empire Prairie, a rich grassland ecosystem that evolved over thousands of years before being largely replaced by agriculture and suburban development. We organically grow native plants with a minimal carbon footprint, raising them outdoors in natural conditions. Through individual plant sales, pollinator gardens, and pocket prairie installations, we help homeowners create beautiful landscapes that support pollinators, birds, and local biodiversity. Native prairie plants do far more than add color—they build deep root systems, partner with underground fungal networks, store carbon, improve soil health, and reconnect fragmented habitats. The name Legacy reflects both a personal commitment to leave a healthier world for our children and grandchildren and a broader mission to restore a small piece of our region’s natural heritage. Inspired by the understanding that we are part of an ongoing circle of life and stewardship, we believe every native planting contributes to a more resilient future in the face of biodiversity loss and a changing climate. Each yard may be small, but together they can help carry the legacy of the Empire Prairie forward for generations to come.

Our native plants are grown naturally in Waunakee Wisconsin completely outdoors from local high quality seed. We do not currently utilize greenhouses, hoop houses, grow lights, chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers or other artificial means of propagation. All plants are naturally stratified outdoors, potted and grown in locally sourced Purple Cow Organic Potting Soil.

Plants are usually available late May through October.  We do not have a retail store at this time.  Free local delivery (in/near Dane County Wisconsin) or pickup available at 512 N Ridge Dr in Waunakee WI.  Local delivery is zip code based, let us now if your zip code is not allowing delivery and should be added to our delivery area.  Contact zac@legacynativeplants.com or 608.235.5052.
